Research-Findings-Revolution

I believe researchers are rational, critical thinkers that they dig deeply into the root to prove the existing of problems and find important factors. I think the purpose for a research study is far more intense.

In my course, at semester 5, we are required to come out with a research study. We bring up the issue and decide the questions and analyse ourselves then present the findings.

Research which is closely related to statistics gives numerical evidences. Bars, charts and graphs speak a thousand words I suppose. Perhaps, to everyone’s surprise, the outcome would give us a shock.

Tomorrow morning, I’m going to attend seniors’ presentation. We, juniors need to learn from them and I think we need to start develop sense of critics, sensitive to the need of changing the world. Change doesn’t happen over a night. World doesn’t be on your desired track. They all take time.

Besides the findings of the research, I’m as well as interested in the future of my place. Unless they say that seniors’ research are just homework, for the sake of completing assignment, I think I hope to see that the superior do something, make changes and impress the world. Comfort zones are protective and convenience. That’s why; I and you are still doing the same thing day in and day-out. Twenty four seven, we eat on time, go to class or work, meet up friend on time, never forget to find a life-long partner in circles of people…

I see the need for change. I want new things. But I realize my short-of pulling me back often. I have a very girl-ish mind, not about laces, Barbies, chocolates and best dress-up, but a typical, simple mind which is not so critical and smart. I’m short-sighted. I’m not a good planner. My brain is not as critical as guys’ mainly ‘cause I’m don’t have the Y-chromosome and I’m not trained up in this way. I admire those who are able to become good leader, courageous to change the world, oppose the traditions and make new things happen.

I hope I can. And I would love to be a good helper for a history-maker. Well, if I’m smart enough and don’t give stupid problems. I guess a real man doesn’t want to bother how much you buy a high heels but he cares for how well you dress up with it. Is that so?

Well, changes don’t take place under the shade of authority. Restrictions and law protect people in the cage. So that no outsider can destroy the cage and harm the ‘residents’. If they do, they are sued under law and being sentenced, peeps. And the same thing, ‘residents’ remain inside. How now? Break the law, get rid of norms and live freely you will be? Many people want it so much. Sadly, nothing will happen.
“My dear, please get back to your seat and keep quiet and die with it. Accept whatever you have been given. Be gratitude and feel proud ‘cause you are a ‘resident’!”

Loaded

Yes, this week was loaded with assignments. Cardiac topic to present. Statistics one- sampling method. Sejarah- zaman penjajahan…
Suddenly I felt like surrounded by datelines. A lot of tasks in my to-do list which stick in my cerebrum. It’s hard for me to access the Internet, so I had to owe once to my senior buddy to borrow his Statistics Power Point. Extracting here and there, finally I could manage to understand what’s simple random sampling, probability sampling, stratified and systematic sampling. There are also purposive and accidental sampling method as well. However, so thankful that in Health Promotion I just need to know, no need to COUNT! I don’t go along with the word ‘Mathematics’. But sometimes, I hope time can be rewind back so that I could master it.

I like self-directed learning and I enjoy presenting my new findings. But I couldn’t extent myself without help of search engine. I love Wikipedia. It’s my favourite for learning new vocabulary. I gave 18-above-only education to my friend via MSN. I collected information from many medical websites and Wiki as well. Whenever I go back to hometown, when StreamyX allows me, I copy many articles, medic info, visit blogs and chit-chat all night long. And I have many links for medic knowledge and for various online fun.

I know that Maxis broadband is available at RM 70 monthly. But I pull back myself from subscribing one. I afraid that the indulgence would risks my study and threatens my result. It’s a plain and straightforward reason. I think I’m rational beside the part of complaining about lousy wireless connection in hostel.

One thing that I really find hard to indulge in is FRIENDSTER. This might pull back the creator of F to take me as model for ad! Haha… Of course, smart and brilliant, aromatic Earl Grey has ‘its’ own reason. 1st, I couldn’t online often to update, what’s the point? There’s no gate to keep in touch with old friends. (sad) 2nd-ly, I like my photos to be private and meaningful. I don’t like people simply grab my photos nor see where I have been, how pretty/ handsome my friends are and……

Well, I know what you want to say, I know I can privatize my profile. But that seems like lost of meaning for keeping in touch and tracing back long-lost friends. So, Earl Grey thinks, “What for???”

Before Test II, I had my Test I result. To my surprise, I maintain at same position with average of 84.00. Praise ye the name of mighty God who granted me wisdom and strength, give me peace in my heart!!!!! Now, the Test II result has not yet finish marked by tutors because everyone is busy. Semester 5 seniors they are doing research. Will be presented on 4/4 morning! I’m going! Yippee! Yippee!

English lunch at Winter Warmers

side dish salad and my pot of Earl Grey~~ haha...
main course: macaroni cheesebaked!
another cream-ly choice--seafood spaghetti

cheesy~~
It’s a break-off after visiting smelly Indah Water. Under scorching hot sun, I traveled up and down to see the tanks~ Some more the accompanied teacher didn’t like when we have conversation other than talking about sewage disposal. Smelly, but cannot cover our nose~ (this is a respectful act pun lar…but please bear with us, we aren’t pretty, cute nurses that outsiders imagine us. We are 'servants' of community who hike up and down to learn about public health)

Talk about my worthwhile cheese baked better! It’s more delighting and cheering~

Walking up and down( I always go up and down lar…) at Gurney place, from Sushi King, Domino’s pizza, A&W to Chilis, Manila place, finally we made up our minds to step into Winter Warmers!

I had Macaroni cheese-baked with a pot of hot Earl Grey (it’s ME!), with a simple, juicy veggie salad! My friends they ordered Bolognese cheese baked, Seafood spaghetti, spaghetti Carbonara, with irresistible peach tea and lavender ice blended. All are so good smell and the aroma is so quiet and romantic. Because we had to college by 1.30p.m so we all tucked in by forgetting gentleness and lady-likeness. I couldn’t enjoy my Earl Grey. I drank as if drinking Coca Cola!!! What a waste~

Cheese-baked are so cheesy and oven-hot! Salads are so moderate. Seafood spaghetti was so creamy. Very hope that I can cook for my own now! (Later I’ll be eating ‘da pao’ economical fried bee hoon only larrr)

My cheese baked set costing me RM 22 only~ much a good deal and worth going again and again for the sake of good cheese-moment and romantic English atmosphere with a bunch of girl-friends.

See you soon, WW! ;p

indah water/water beautification?

woods for absorbing the foul smell.
understand? in case someone drop into the pool. prevent from being "ka-na-sai" LOL~~~
"wah, so high~~~~"
It’s 1918 hour now. Haven’t tuck in any food except for a bowl of KokoKrunch half an hour ago. Finally most of the scheduled assignments have completed, not 100% but 7788. The whole week was packed with seriously major works. Tuesday we paid a visit to Indah Water and at 2 in the afternoon, we went to water treatment plant at Ayer Itam. Both places require a lot of energy and burnt away many, many fats!

INDAH WATER

We arrived at 9 a.m. The workers have not yet gone out to work (collecting sewage lar…) 2 ladies led us and explain step by step. They are engineers in the field I suppose. All of the treatment plants are high up, they are not underground but are like 2-floor high. Which mean that we need to go onto staircases to see what’s inside the big, big, big and deep, deep, deep poooool… From the outside, they really look clean, you know. Painted in white. Built out of concrete. We smelled a deep aroma of ammonia, saw a lot of dark brown coloured sewage. Those fluids which sent into the place will go through a tank which filled with woods for odor control. It’s impressive indeed. Unexpected. That’s why in certain process only the smell is severe and unbearable.
They have sediment tanks (there are 2) for solid to settle down and the leftover fluid-form one is effluent which then carried forward for further process. To our surprise, we saw something white and long; with tip in front-a condom.
“Why so long one?” I asked.
The funny-unsinkable-thing spinning on the surface with the other leaves. Initially I thought it’s toothpaste. But now when I re-think, how could toothpaste FLOAT?!
Effluent passes through the process of oxygenation. Providing oxygen for the beneficial microbes to decompose the substances within. Actually the HIGH tanks are all rounded in shape! I think from sky above would looks interesting. Well, the place actually near Penang International Airport. When I stood on top of the tank, I can saw the taxiway.
Ok, then there are 4 clarifier tanks (remember, tanks are high and big and deeeep). In this process, there are long “sapu” or brush to clarify the floating grease and material. As the technician said, the ‘thing’ spin and complete a cycle in 40 minutes.
The ‘brush’- you can imagine it as the long hand of the clock. The ‘long long brush is as long as its radius. It sweeps whatever ahead then when it finishes 1 round, the floating rubbish will be disposed of. How? I don’t know. Because we didn’t manage to wait for it to complete a cycle.
The suspensions are dried of as waste products and either disposed of to dumping area or taken away as fertilizers. After all process, the effluents actually look quite clear thou still coloured. The clear water will then channeled to discharge into the river. Yes, river, the people in-charge said. Well, so do you people still wanna “mandi sungai”? LOL~~~

Relay For Life 8-9th March 2008
Organizer: Penang Hospice Society and National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Penang branch.
Venue: Youth Park

The sky was drizzling throughout the exciting night. Carrying umbrella, we participate in the event. The function was aiming to raise funds for cancer victims and celebrate survival from malignancy. I led a team of 10 and we raised fund for it. In my college my “Bravo” team emerged as 2nd highest amount. We had RM 1200++. As a team leader, I’m so proud of it and thanks to all my 9 team members!

We bought coupons and take dinner under the tent. We saw pretty school girls who dance and cheer-lead in the opening ceremony. We couldn’t see from the front, from behind what we saw was their shaking shoulders!! However, much graceful than the dancing of my guy-classmate!

The event relayed throughout the night till the morning. Participants need to walk along the track for 10 hours plus. Can rotate, of course. This is to symbolize the fighting for cancer is a long process, non-stop.

Because of many many GIVEN reasons, we, girls, cannot stay overnight in camps afraid that some people will sneak away and mushy-mushy with their bf at some other places. (adults said that’s unhealthy and un-professional)

There’re students and participants from many other hospitals and colleges, high schools. I saw a very handsome guy! He looks like Eurasian.

Remember that day, 8/3 was Election Day? You know, we were in danger if the opposition uncle lost! His bungalow was nearby! But what to do, God decides. He won!!!

So that was the night filled with fun and anticipation. (Don’t know who win in the poll day)
