Today is my first weekend spending in this new surrounding. It’s one of hundreds weekends I need to stay here, for a period of 3 years, or equivalent to 6 semesters. Here I am to study my Diploma in Nursing. College of Nursing, of Lam Wah Ee Hospital (CON LWEH). I moved into the hostel in the early morning of 3rd of January, 2007. Perhaps it was a memorable day in my life. Where I left my comfort zone, and arrived at a new college.
I embarked as early as 6.15am and then I arrived in CON at 8.20am after having breakfast. I’ve got seniors to help me unload my luggage and everything from the car. It’s a bit shameful for me, ‘cause I have had a serious big amount of luggage which I brought over here. =) moreover, all of the seniors are so pretty and small in size. I dare not let them to carry my things actually. But they insisted. One of them said, we are suppose to carry things for you all. After I have signed in, and took my room keys, I was led to my room. 80B (Block A, 2nd floor). Other then the door key, I have keys for my drawer and cupboard too!
By the time I enter my room, my roommate had already arrived. I got a corner for my bed. It’s what I asked for. Of course, I didn’t make any request with the CON. I mean I prayed for it! Haha… the hostel rooms are all standard. With bathroom attached, 2 beds, 2 study tables with a individual lamp on the wall above, and also a small table beside our beds. We have chairs too! There are clean curtains, clean blankets for us. The blue blankets were folded nicely as in hospital wards. It’s a kind of standard as well. Oh ya, we have pillow and a towel too. But I brought my pillow too. And as I know, most of the seniors have more than 1 pillow too. Some buy new one here. And some brought their beloved cuddle animals from home. (maximum 2 only, as we heard from seniors) we don’t need to wash the bed sheet all those things our own. The hospital dobby will wash for us. We just need to carry our things out following the day scheduled once a week. Blankets washed once a month. While the others washed once a week. (We have learned how to do bed-making and how to fold our sheets neatly, in a standard way of folding.)
For the past few days, Wednesday until yesterday, Saturday we were having orientation, talks, introduction and so on. Yesterday we were having a Get-to-know-you session. We didn’t introduce ourselves. But we introduce our roommates. To conclude the population in my class, it is as shown as below:
· 36 students of all of us,
· 2 are boys.
· out of 7, they are from Sibu, Sarawak. (all brave girls huh?! XD )
· 1 from Kota Bahru, Kelantan.
· 2 from Alor Star. (including me la,of course. We were former Keat Hwa students. Actually the girl was my kindergarten classmate also. But I never talk with her until we met here. Haha..)
· About 2 girls are not from Alor Star, but other places of Kedah. One of them are from Sungai Petani.
· And the other girls are either from Butterworth or Penang local.
These few days, we were wearing CON Polo tee with slacks and black shoes. Haha…So happy that I have my slacks from PADINI and shoes from POLO. So well-fitted on me! Feel so comfortable too. There were some things that I didn’t bring along. So I went to Perangin Mall with 3 other girls. My friend got a car to fetch us go. It’s not a taxi, it’s a private car that the uncle had been fetching CON students for years. It’s cheap, most importantly. It’s only RM 4 for 2 ways each person. I went to buy a white board, some stationary and hair bow. We need hair bow to tie our hair in a bun neatly. All seniors do so. It looks pro and tidy on us. Haha… I like it actually. I bought 2 different design one. Any pattern will do as long as it’s plain black. To use it, first we tie a pony tail. Then slip the clipper in, clip on the hair above the tail. Next, stuff our long pony tail into the net. Last but not least, comb the hair again. Make sure it’s neat. If any strands of hairs fall over the eyes or sides of the face, pin it with black hair grips. So that the overall look is neat, tidy and without looking messy, greasy.
Talk about our schedule everyday. We have classes from 8am till 4 pm. Each class is 2 hours.
8.00-10.00 am: class
10.00-10.30 am: tea break
10.30-12.30 pm: class
12.30-2.00 pm: lunch break
2.00-4.00 pm: class
Stated below is our meal time in LWEH cafeteria:
Breakfast: 6.15 – 8.00 am
Morning break: 10.00-10.30 am
Lunch: 12.00 noon-2.00 pm
Afternoon tea: 3.30-4.30 pm
Dinner: 5.30-7.00 pm
Every morning, I wake up as early as 6.30am. My roommate bathes first. Then only it is my turn. Oh yes, I want to mention. We don’t have hot shower here! So sad I am. Thus, I need to take time to adapt my body with the cold temp water. Haha… Mummy thought I didn’t bathe in the morning ’cause she knows that I don’t take cold shower at home. Seniors said when we have clinical practice, where we work in wards according to duty roster; we need to wake up at 5 am when we are on morning duty. We have had our first semester timetable. We will start having C.P on March. And you know, our terminal exam starts on my BIRTHDAY!!! My 19!! *sob…sob*
That’s all for this one. I will continue to update my blog so that my dearly friends can keep informed about my life here.
God bless you all. And remember me in your caring prayer,k? Thanks.
