I went to Ipoh that weekend- food series

Let the food kickstart my Ipoh trip. We had some ice cream in Taiping Lake. Where we didn't see much lotus flower but a lizard swimming leisurely in the lake.
Dinner for first night! Should always start with most famous thing. Bean sprout chicken 芽菜鸡at 老黄记. Don't ask me for address. Can someone tell so that everyone can go? XD *bow down many times* 谢谢/ KAM SIA/ THANK YOU
This pork meat balls are springy to your teeth. 弹牙爽口猪肉丸
芽菜 bean sprouts. quite nice. juicy.
+ 鸡 = 芽菜鸡 滑到溜 the chicken. Ya, bean sprout + chicken = bean sprout chicken
Love this plate of bird. 'cause is so oily and smooth. That the chicken will just slide down from your chopsticks and wasted on the table. Nice. Eating speechlessly *slurp*
粉/ 河粉/果条 also, smooth noodles that Perak people and KL people call it Hor Fun. But Ipoh one is more narrow... is like 6 mm width. In Penang, Alor Star are like 10 mm in width which known as Koay Teow. Some 30- 33 mm wide one are known as Duo Pan/ Hor Fun however, in Penang and Alor Star resspectively.
Hey, meal above was just RM 32 for 4 hungry travellers.
After that, we went to this grocery which sell a lot of Perak delicacies. I mean dried stuff like candy and biscuits and some coffee.
Different types/ brands of biscuits.
Some preserved fruits.
After hanging around in town for a while, we went to this "Dessert Street" 糖水街 Say it in Cantonese. And a friend of mine, whom a Cantonese "Banana" thought is Sweet Soup Chicken 糖水鸡 He actually thought that Ipoh people is famous for special recipe for Chickens! Can have bean sprout one and also SWEET chicken.

Ok, now I forgotten what are they. The white thing on the top right is Okio 爱玉冰 Green colour one is like grass juice. not wheatgrass I think. The black one, a kind of herbal tea with egg 崩大碗 funny chinese name which I can't comprehend.
The most colourful ice I ever had. Mixed fruit ice. Fruits are nice. But the ice below are not enough of taste/ colouring. They don't put milk, you see.
The next morning, Thaipusam morning. We had breakfast nearby the Wong's Chicken. They sell homemade mooncakes during Mid-autumn. Foh SAn. You know?
Very traditional type of dim sum restaurant/ Char Lao. But they don't have the shouting things which I like about dim sum restaurant. I like to hear them shouting " Har Kao Siew Mai" "table 20 Bill ( Mai Dan)" That's more HK feel.
Beijing Chee Cheong Fun. Is in fact a HALAL food but because of its name, sound as "pork intestine mee" poor Malay friends can't enjoy this cuisine. Is a vegetarian food if you minus the prawns inside. And is nothing to do with pork either, they named it after the shape however.
Siew Mai. Very big in fact. Is actually made of pork.
Har Kao. My happiest part for dim sum moments. Ok, RM 5 for 3. In Anson road dim sum, Penang is RM 3 for 4. This expensive one has 3 prawns/ shrimps in it each. Fresh. So which one more worth it?
You know, I hate people chop the prawns in a ball of meat and wrap it as Har Kao. So deceiving and not nice.
Deep fried Yam thingy. Crispy at outside.Chicken feet. I didn't eat. But I know HOW to eat.
Fish ball. Nice. Pork meatball previous night better.
This is a cute thing. HIONG PENG. Outside looks crispy. But inside is spongy like glutinuos looking.
Deep fried prawn (ball) i think. Nice.
You see, go for trip in 4 is good. You can just cut everything equally.
I forgotten what was inside. But the outer wrapping part was bean thingy- Fu Choke (the upper layer floating on top of soya bean milk when in the making process. High protein. Vegetarian food.
This is Har Siew Mai. Prawn + pork = new recipe!
This meal was the most expensive of all. Like 50 bucks plus plus. This is after some time, after we went to Gua Tempurung for adventure, we came back to town for this beancurd dessert. Tao Fu Fa. They have white sugar, brown sugar and ginger sugar. Nah, in fact ginger sweet soup is my favourite. 80 cents for a bowl of this.
Yong Tao Fu after the dessert. After driving to another area of Ipoh. Home-made good stuff. meatball stuffed inside Tou Fu are nice. Those fried things beside... hmmm... unexplainable.
Curry Chee Cheong Fun. totally vegetarian food. Weird for me. My first time.
Here our last dinner in Ipoh. Ordered a big bowl of soup for 4. Was raddish soup. such a good taste. 4 of us got 2 lil bowls of portion and still some leftover. Was just RM 5. Hard to believe after we saw the price table hang on the wall. Ya, we ordered without caring how much.
Fried veggie. Big one. also 5 bucks.
Claypot rice cooked with coal. So many red hot fierce fire. XD
My house still boiling soup with this coal method. SOups are nicer in this traditional way.
Claypot rice. Rice, not enough of taste. They boil the rice with in chicken essence. Is unlike those selling in food court. 2 claypots for 4.
Went to some event on Day 14 of CNY (Thaipusam) after dinner. RM 8 for not much of lantern exhibition. was meant for fund raising building temple. The most interesting is only this Wishing Tree outside. Want to make a wish? RM 3 for a coin threaded with a lil piece of paper. little paper, so small/ short wish only. You need to throw high so that it hang higher I think. Not sure about this.
The "column" of the entrance gate. Colourful. They use bamboo stick and clothes to make all those colourful lanterns.
It's the lamest thing of the trip. 10 bucks for a not hot, not truly choco HOT CHOCOLATE. Taste like some 3-in-1 cheapo chocolate. I expected too high, am i? The drink was for us to spend time before out movie start in Jusco TGV cinema. All's well ends well. We played card. Cheating game. Play
Last morning, old town white coffee. That place is known as old town. Now I know why white coffee is not white. 'cause white coffee is black coffee plus milk. As long as it has milk inside, so is white coffee. plain black coffee is Kopi O'.
Another type of Chee Cheong Fun. Mushroom sauce plus some sour sauce. In orange plates are some fried stuff. White colour one was made of yam. they meshed the yam then steam it.
Another meal of Yong Tau Fu eat with Hor Fun. I was sad 'cause the bittergourd sold out (again).
Toasted bread. Actually is ovenbaked instead of using toaster. I don't understand why. Why not using toaster?
the you-know-who-you-are besty, this is your souvenir from 100 Yen shop! Is a RM 4.90 shop. All stuffs are imported from Japan. Opposite Ipoh Parade.
This is sold at 100 Yen shop. Ya, Japan shop selling Taiwan Alisan deep fried chicken chop also. This is green tea snowy ice. smoother than ice kacang. it looks cute. like green udon.

That's it for my food series of my last trip. Hope you drool like waterfall after reading this and decide to give up your slimming plan~
